Duncan Hunter, the Californian Republican congressman who famously had a vape session during a Congressional hearing, is in a bit of hot water and it’s all about video games.

The San Diego Union-Tribune is reporting Hunter received a letter from the FEC regarding charges from the popular video game distribution app Steam. Hunter racked up 68 separate charges worth more than $1300. The charges cover a two-month span and are listed as a personal expense to be paid back.

Obviously, that’s a big no-no, as campaign money isn’t supposed to be spent on video games, especially when months later, Hunter still hasn’t paid them back.

Hunter’s got an excuse. He said his teenaged son bought one game and the additional money is from unauthorized charges. Hunter spokesperson said he’s working on having the charges reversed, hence why they haven’t been paid back. It sure sounds like his kid got access to his credit card and went on a little spending spree. $1300 on Steam is like basically giving a kid a lifetime pass to Disney Land. When are parents going to learn not to give their kids credit cards?

To compare, as an active gamer myself, I checked my own Steam purchases over the last two months and it totals $30.59 on six separate purchases (I had to have the Rocket League Batman v Superman DLC). This is because A) I’m a cheap bastard, and B) I didn’t go on a spending spree on my dad’s credit card.

I have no idea how Hunter acts as a congressman, but he seems like a pretty chill dad.
