During Wednesday’s episode of AEW Dynamite, the professional legend Sting announced that he will have his final match at the AEW Revolution pay-per-view in 2024.
“My very first match with AEW was Revolution 2021, and my very last match will be Revolution 2024,” the 64-year-old announced during an in-ring promo. “One more key thing that you need to know: the only thing for sure about Sting is my retirement at Revolution 2024 is for sure.”
Sting — whose real name is Steve Borden — was one of pro wrestling’s biggest stars from the late 1980s to the late 1990s and is best known for his feuds with the likes of Ric Flair, Hollywood Hulk Hogan and Lex Luger in World Championship Wrestling. A former bodybuilder who initially donned short blonde hair and colorful face paint, Sting reinvented himself several times over the course of his career, including stints as a brooding The Crow-like figure, a red and black nWo Wolfpac variant, and a Joker-inspired character.
Following the closing of WCW in 2001, the six-time WCW World Heavyweight Champion and one-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion later had runs in TNA Wrestling (2003-2014) and WWE (2014-2015) before signing with AEW in late 2020. Despite his age, he has since participated in several tag team matches, most often alongside AEW star Darby Allin.
It has yet to be announced who “The Icon’s” final match will be against. AEW Revolution typically takes place in late-February or early-March.
After Sting announced his upcoming retirement on Wednesday night, many around the pro wrestling world took to social media to weigh in on the news.

Very grateful to have been around to witness Sting blast into the main event scene in the late 80’s. Very much felt like the bridge between pro wrestling’s 1980’s “rock n’ roll” aesthetic and the new attitude that would take hold in the 1990’s. #ThankYouSting 🦂👑 pic.twitter.com/58VoXVyFEt

If there's anything fans can thank Tony or AEW for is that Sting won't be remembered for his WWE run.

Sting should win the AEW World Title and then retire as AEW World Champion and then they should retire the AEW World Championship in his honour and never have a World Champion again.

I'll see you at Revolution 2024. Sting is one of those guys.

This year's Revolution was March 5th. Sting turns 65 March 20th. Gonna end his career just under the retirement age wire.

Sting's AEW run has far exceeded all expectations and he's been treated like the legend he is. That being said his last match he should set someone on fire
