NASCAR veteran Kevin Harvick revealed a huge surprise Saturday.

During Harvick’s media conference at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the former NASCAR Cup Series champion nonchalantly told reporters he fell down some stairs and “busted” several ribs in mid-June.

Yet he did not miss any time in the race car.

“I’ve worked through an injury after the break over the next six weeks, and we have fought one battle after another,” Harvick said.

Veteran NASCAR reporter Bob Pockrass asked, “Did you say you were injured?”

“I fell down a flight of steps in Italy and had a stack of busted ribs for several weeks,” Harvick said.

Harvick suffered the injury during NASCAR’s off-week in mid-June. In the first three races after the injury, he finished 24th, 29th, and 30th, at Nashville, Chicago and Atlanta, respectively. He then rebounded with consecutive fourth-place finishes at New Hampshire and Pocono.

Fans were impressed Harvick did not miss any time after suffering one of the more painful injuries a driver can deal with in a race car.

“And the fact that he’s still been running as good as he has for what that car is just shows why he’s one of the greatest,” noted one fan on Twitter.

The 2014 NASCAR Cup series champion is currently ranked fifth in the point standings.
