Ross Chastain has been involved in a number of major crashes during NASCAR races this season and Sunday’s Quaker State 400 was no exception.
Chastain caused two multi-car crashes on Sunday and got called out for it from fellow drivers, racing fans, and those watching at home and on social media.
On Lap 91, Chastain’s car bumped the back of Martin Truex Jr.’s car, which caused him to spin out and hit the wall. The ensuing pile-up included Chastain and a few other drivers. Joey Logano went airborne when Kyle Busch hit him. Meanwhile, Austin Dillon, Chris Buescher, and B.J. McLeod were eliminated from the race because of the crash.
They found the edge.

“You’re pressing the back bumper of the guy and you can tell, it looked like he got loose [in front of him] and he just stayed in it,” Dillon said, per Fox Sports’ Bob Pockrass. “I haven’t seen a good [replay], it’s more of the fact that he’s in that same area and part of the wreck.”
Aric Almirola’s team was overheard on the radio referring to Chastain as a “f—ing idiot,” per Austin Konenski.

Meanwhile, NASCAR fans on social media absolutely tore into Chastain, who is developing a reputation for unsafe driving and ruining races.
Y'know… I think Ross Chastain deserves the hate he gets.
Cup drivers can't make this many mistakes. #NASCAR

Once again, Ross Chastain.
This needs to stop if Chastain wants to win a NASCAR Cup Series championship. https://t.co/aI7mzxyNlp

Ross Chastain’s odds of winning a cup championship decrease exponentially each week…despite having a championship caliber car

For what it’s worth, Chastain finished second on the day, so while he made a lot of people angry, he still came out looking good.
