The United States Women’s National Team played its first two matches at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in prime time back in the United States. But unfortunately for the team’s devoted fanbase, that certainly won’t be the case for Tuesday’s pivotal showdown with Portugal.

Tuesday’s Group E matchup between the United States and Portugal won’t kick off until 3 a.m. Eastern time as the tournament is being played on the other side of the world in Australia. That means fans on the east coast will either have to get up extremely early or stay up extremely late in order to watch the USWNT play.

Either way, as USWNT superstar striker Alex Morgan points out, it will probably require some caffeine for viewers.

“Footy for coffee,” Alex Morgan said in a tweet on Monday evening ahead of the team’s 3 a.m. kickoff on Tuesday.

The match is a massive one for Morgan and the USWNT as the team needs a win or a draw to advance out of Group E and into the knockout stage of the tournament.

If the United States wants to win the group, however, they’ll need to win Tuesday’s match. And they’ll likely have to do it by quite a few goals in order to advance on goal differential.

Unfortunately for fans, it’s not at a great time. But the most dedicated will certainly still find a way to watch the match.
