The United States Women’s National Team has not looked like its usual dominant self at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup so far, but superstar Alex Morgan does not sound worried.

During a recent interview, Alex Morgan made it clear that while the team has not played up to their own expectations, they’re still ready to compete after advancing to the knockout round.

“Honestly, we expect so much of ourselves,” Morgan said according to Fox Sports. “We hold a high standard, and we wanted to go through first in the group. But this World Cup is crazy. Every World Cup is crazy, but this one especially. Knowing that we’re getting through to the round of 16, we’re ready for it.”

Morgan made it clear that despite the team’s struggles so far in this tournament, they still have the talent to accomplish their goals.

“I know this team, and I know what we’re capable of,” Morgan said. “Just because it hasn’t clicked every moment on the field, and we’re not putting the goals in the back of the net doesn’t mean these aren’t the right players for the job. The confidence is there. Now we just have to prove it out on the field.”

The USWNT will have a chance to prove a lot of doubters wrong this week when they take on Sweden. We’ll have to see how they perform.
