Over the years, Alex Morgan has been one of the biggest and most prominent stars for the United States Women’s National Team. But USWNT legend Carli Lloyd seems to think that she should be removed from the team’s starting lineup.

During a recent appearance on Fox Sports, Carli Lloyd had the surprising suggestion that USWNT head coach Vlatko Andonovski should bench striker Alex Morgan for Tuesday’s match against Portugal.

“To spice things up a little bit, to change it up, I am going with the lineup that is behind me,” Lloyd said on FOX Sports according to Mirror. “I am taking Alex Morgan out. She’s done well, she’s occupied the centre-backs, she’s dragged and pulled players out and whatnot.

“But I just feel like the three up top have been very narrow, so we need to create some width. So if we can put Sophia Smith up in the 9, on the left Trinity Rodman, on the right Lynn Williams.”

Morgan started both of the first two matches of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup against Vietnam and the Netherlands, so we’ll have to see whether or not Andonovski is willing to make this change before the team’s pivotal match against Portugal on Tuesday.
