Earlier this week, United States Women’s National Team legend Carli Lloyd absolutely blasted the team for its performance and mentality throughout the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, and now USWNT captain Lindsey Horan is responding to those words.
In a press conference this week, Lindsey Horan was asked directly about the criticism from Carli Lloyd and she made it very clear that she wasn’t necessarily a fan of Lloyd’s assessment of her squad.
“Yeah, you know, it’s kind of frustrating for me to hear that,” Horan said after taking a deep breath and gathering her thoughts, according to Fox Sports. “Especially knowing this team and knowing how much preparation we put into every single game, seeing our trainings, seeing how hard we work.
“You can’t question that we didn’t want to win the game. You can’t question that we weren’t working as hard as we possibly could. We know that things could have been better. We know that we could have done more. We know that we could have scored opportunities. It was a really good team that we faced.
“Again, it’s noise and again, it’s an opinion, and everyone is entitled to their own opinion.”
The good news is, Horan and the USWNT will have a chance to prove Lloyd wrong this week with a match against Sweden in the knockout round.
