For two decades, soccer superstar Megan Rapinoe has been one of the biggest names and most prominent faces on the United States Women’s National Team, on and off the pitch. But following the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, she is now retired and the youth of the team is taking over – and it sounds like she’s happy about that.

Following the USWNT’s loss to Sweden in a penalty shootout this week, the team was eliminated which ended the storied career of Megan Rapinoe. But even though she will not be playing, it sounds like she is optimistic about the future of the team.

“The kids are taking over, which is such a good thing,” Rapinoe said according to Fox Sports. “Obviously so many of them in our squad are so young, so talented. They’ll all be back and better in just four short years.”

The United States is loaded with young talent across its roster, including a couple of superstars who were unable to play this World Cup as they dealt with injuries.

It was a disappointing showing for the team at this year’s World Cup and a few prominent players have now played their last matches with the team. But the future is still bright.
