The United States Women’s National Team suffered a pretty disappointing fate in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, falling in a penalty kick shootout against Sweden to mark their earliest exit from the World Cup in the history of the team. But it sounds like USWNT head coach Vlatko Andonovski is excited about the future of the team even despite the loss.

The United States had an extremely young roster heading into this year’s World Cup with several players seeing their first major tournament of their careers with the team. And that talent will be leading the team for the forseeable future.

“For this team, the future is bright,” U.S. coach Vlatko Andonovski said after the loss according to Fox Sports.

Obviously, the loss stings. But Andonovski believes that the group of young players can use the disappointment to fuel that as they gear up to begin another run of dominance.

“There’s a group here who will make their mark in the future,” Andonovski said. “… I know that they will use this moment as motivation in the future so they don’t have to go through this ever again.”

Of course, superstars like Alex Morgan and Megan Rapinoe will be moving on from the team, but there is still plenty of young talent to lead the way for the foreseeable future.
