The United States Women’s National Team has not been as dominant as it would have hoped so far in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup leading to a few of lackluster performances to start the tournament. And according to USWNT head coach Vlatko Andonovski, there’s a reason for that.

Following the team’s uninspiring 0-0 draw against Portugal on Tuesday, Vlatko Andonovski opened up about the team’s struggles, revealing that a lack of familiarity is partially to blame for the poor play.

“Obviously, we wanted to win the game, we wanted to move on with a win, but we knew today we were going to face a tough opponent and the most important thing is getting the job done and the only focus for now is the next game,” Andonovski said according to Mirror.

“It’s a fairly new team. The players on the field haven’t been together for a long time and it’s just missing each other on whether it’s a pass or a through ball or a cross. The more time we spend together, more of those chances are going to be taken.”

We’ll have to see whether or not the USWNT is able to improve as the players become more and more familiar with each other.
