On Sunday afternoon, 19-year-old American tennis star Coco Gauff made history in Cincinnati, Ohio when she became the first teenager in more than 50 years to win the Western & Southern Open.

Coco Gauff earned the title with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Karolina Muchova on Sunday. And she was pleased to share the moment with the American crowd.

“This is unbelievable,” Gauff said during the post-match trophy presentation according to ESPN. “I’m just happy to be here for this moment.

“I want to congratulate Karolina for an incredible run in this tournament,” she added. “Hopefully, we’ll play more often, and on a bigger stage than this.”

Gauff was just the fourth teenage finalist in the history of the tournament and the first since Vera Zvonareva back in 2004. She is the first teenage champion since 17-year-old Linda Tuero won the title back in 1968.

It was quite a dominant run for Gauff through the tournament as she clinched her spot in the final by beating Iga Swiatek, who is the No. 1 ranked player in the world.

Until their matchup on Saturday afternoon, she had never so much as won a set against Swiatek in any of the previous seven meetings between the two players.

Now, Gauff will try to recreate that dominance at the upcoming US Open in New York.
