DAYTONA BEACH, FL – FEBRUARY 21: Denny Hamlin, driver of the #11 FedEx Express Toyota, takes the checkered flag ahead of Martin Truex Jr., driver of the #78 Bass Pro Shops/Tracker Boats Toyota, to win the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series DAYTONA 500 at Daytona International Speedway on February 21, 2016 in Daytona Beach, Florida. The Daytona 500 had its closest finish in history, Anthony Davis scored 59 freaking points and grabbed 20 boards, Pablo Sandoval is still fat, and Barry Bonds is back to being skinny (and says that God knows he’s a Hall of Famer). We get to all that and much more here at the Monday Cheat Sheet…

We had a totally bonkers finish in the Daytona 500

Denny Hamlin won the Daytona 500 on Sunday, barely. Like, by the smallest amount in Daytona 500 history, edging Martin Truex Jr. by .011 of a second. And Matt Kenseth finished 14th after having the lead entering the final lap!

This finish was as amazing as it sounds:

Anthony Davis went NUTS in Detroit

Anthony Davis is absurd. The New Orleans Pelicans’ 22-year-old scored an NBA season-high 59 points and pulled down 20 rebounds against the Detroit Pistons in a 111-106 victory . Really, how in the hell was this game only a five-point difference with his numbers? Well, it probably had to do with only one other Pelican scoring over six points.

I mean, look at the box score for just the Pelicans’ starting five (lolololol):

Highlights of Anthony’s unbelievable performance at The Palace of Auburn Hills:

59 points. 20 rebounds. 22 years old. ONE EYEBROW. Incredible numbers, folks.

– That photo is of Boston Red Sox third baseman Pablo Sandoval on Sunday, after the Red Sox told him to lose some weight in the offseason. Yeah, don’t think he listened on that one.

And… yep: Sandoval’s belly got the Crying Jordan treatment.

Barry Bonds: “God knows I’m a Hall of Famer”. Pretty interesting comments from the new Miami Marlins hitting coach (this still feels weird). He has Ken Griffey Jr’s HOF endorsement, too.

Oh, and Barry looks like it’s 1990 all over again

Longtime Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Heath Miller is the latest notable NFL player to call it quits. Damn solid career from Miller and it’s going to be odd not seeing him at tight end for Pittsburgh in 2016.

– The Warriors went 1-1 over the weekend, and obviously every loss for them is a big story now as they try to match — or surpass — the Bulls’ record 72 wins. Their loss came to the Portland Trail Blazers, in blowout fashion 137-105. Damian Lillard went off for Portland, dropping 51 on Golden State:

At 49-5, the Warriors still remain one game ahead of the 95-96 Bulls’ pace.

– The coolest thing from the weekend: A fan hit a home run to win Texas Rangers season tickets. Video included in the link.

– As for the lamest thing from the weekend: Don Mattingly won’t allow Marlins players to wear facial hair. Yes, the same Don Mattingly that wore a mustache for most of his own playing career. And as my buddy Cooper Rushing pointed out on Twitter (highly recommended follow for baseball fans)…

These guys are professionals, and it’s 2016, where very few people care about facial hair… especially on professional athletes. Not to mention Marlins players don’t even get to play in front of more than like a dozen fans at home games. Let them at least have their facial hair, dammit!

– Your play of the day from Sunday: Colgate senior guard Austin Tillotson hit a half-court buzzer beater, for the win, on Senior Day.

DeMarcus Ware may not be back with the Broncos.

The days of renting cable boxes could be coming to an end.

A British reality show where people teach dogs to fly planes is really taking off.

HBO is coming after Netflix using its own battle plan.

One last breath of gratuitous procrastination

Via Reddit… “Airport Guard Dog”. There really isn’t much more to say other than THIS DOG IS A BADASS.
