Former NBA superstar Dwayne Wade has been one of the most memorable basketball icons in recent memory. He has been away from the game since his retirement in 2019, but made a huge move on Friday to reintegrate himself into the sport.

Wade is best known for his time with the Miami Heat, winning three NBA Championships with the organization. He also played for his hometown Chicago Bulls towards the latter stages of his career.

It is in his hometown where his next’s basketball journey will begin, as he has reportedly officially signed on as a member of the WNBA’s Chicago Sky ownership group on Friday.

Wade took to social media on Friday to confirm the news, sharing his excitement about the decision in a statement on Twitter.

“It’s an incredible feeling being on this side of history. To see growth, on the business side, for something that I’ve been passionate about my whole life is an amazing feeling. There are amazing things happening in the WNBA. It’s official! This is for the home team- literally.”

This is certainly a massive step for both the Chicago Sky and the WNBA as a whole. Fans offered their opinions about the move on social media shortly after it emerged.

Having an icon in the sport like Dwyane Wade sign on to a WNBA team could undoubtedly lead to massive growth for the league as a whole. He becomes the second notable former NBA player to invest in a WNBA team, as Magic Johnson is also in the ownership group of the Los Angeles Sparks.
