Holograms

When it comes to football training facilities, innovation continues to lead the way as big time programs with deep pockets spare no expense to make their football program the very bets it can be. The University of Florida has selected architectural firm HOK to lead the way with its groundbreaking football facility, complete with holograms.

“This football operations project will have a significant impact on the daily experience of our student-athletes and staff,” said Scott Stricklin, the University of Florida’s athletics director in a released statement. “It represents a substantial commitment on behalf of Florida Athletics and Gator Boosters to ensure that our football coaches, players and staff are able to perform as efficiently as possible. And the new dining hall will benefit all 500 of our student-athletes.”

Yeah, sure, that’s nice. That’s what everyone says about these types of projects. What you really want is a video preview of that Florida has in the works. Well, check this out.

Hold up. Did you see those sweet lockers? Take another look.

That is one comfortable locker space for a player.
And they have their own flat screen TV hovering above them!

There was not too much of a glimpse of the hologram training environment, but that should be quite the sight to see. Will Florida be training against hologram images of their opponents? Is that more advanced than virtual reality? We’ll see, but that sounds very interesting in concept.

The new football facility will aim to pull the program together under one roof, which is the general plan for these types of renovation and construction projects. But providing a state-of-the-art experience for players and their families and the coaches is what is instrumental in keeping a power conference program ahead of the curve. Yes, it is another reminder of the benefits of being a power conference program in a continuing divide between the haves and the have-nots in the world of college football, but if you have the money to invest in such a facility then why not go all out for it?

The project is scheduled to break ground in late December of this year and the 130,000 square-foot facility is scheduled to be completed for opening in 2019.
