By all accounts things couldn’t have gone better for the first major college football game to be played at Lambeau Field, the home of the Green Bay Packers. From the amazing weather, two fanbases having fun with each other and a game that was close to the very end between the LSU Tigers and Wisconsin Badgers — not much went wrong.

So, it shouldn’t be surprising to hear that the Green Bay Packers would have an interest in doing another game at Lambeau Field then.

“Generally speaking, we would like to host additional games like this weekend, which was a tremendous success, a fantastic extended weekend,” Packers spokesman Aaron Popkey said Tuesday.

On the field it was a success, and off of it the city and surrounding area (including as far south as 60 miles away) felt a huge impact from the volume of fans coming to the area for not just one night or two, but making an entire 4-day weekend of the event.

LSU fans may have gone home losers, taking it on the chin in a 16-14 loss to the Badgers, but many left with smiles having been able to take in a game at Lambeau Field.

One of the more interesting moments on Saturday was how quickly a rumor spread inside and outside of the press box of the next game at Lambeau Field — Notre Dame vs. Wisconsin.

The Badgers had no comment on future non-conference opponents, but did speak glowingly about the overall experience for the fans and for the football team at the Carmex Lambeau Field College Classic.

“From our standpoint, the cooperation of the Packers was terrific. They put on a great game, very well-run, and it was a tremendous experience for our student-athletes, staff and fans,” UW director of athletic communications Brian Lucas said. “The memory of the game and the atmosphere is one that will last for a very long time.”

While an ND-Wisconsin game may be a dream matchup for many in the upper Midwest, matching a historical power to a historical professional stadium with plenty of names connecting the programs…nothing has been confirmed about that potential matchup.

That’s likely because said matchup would be at least four years off, with the Badgers nonconference schedule pretty full up until the 2020 season.
