Remember when Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was standing firm on the idea that Tony Romo would be the team’s starting quarterback when he was deemed healthy enough to play? Well, then Dak Prescott and the Cowboys started the season 5-1 and now all of a sudden there is no timetable to make any decision regarding the quarterback position in Big D.

It’s amazing what a good start by a backup can do, isn’t it? Just a week ago, Jones and the rest of the Cowboys brass were saying that Romo was still the starter, but a win in Green Bay over the weekend apparently was enough to change everything.

“I don’t have any idea, no one does as to what the situation will be a game or games down the road,” Jones said on his weekly radio show on 105.3 The Fan on Tuesday.

“We don’t have any idea. The main thing is we’re all looking at the same music and we all feel the same thing. The team is positive with each other. We feel like we can make mistakes and overcome them. Everybody feels good about all of what we’re doing.”

It would be one thing if Prescott has been struggling and turning the football over and the Cowboys were winning in spite of the rookie’s performance. That has simply not been the case. Along with running back Ezekiel Elliott, the Cowboys have two rookies worthy of rookie of the year consideration running the show on offense, which presents a problem not all that uncommon in football.

Do you ride the hot hand with the young quarterback (Prescott) or hand the reigns back to the experienced and aging veteran coming off an injury and hope everything continues to go smoothly (Romo)?

As far as Jones is concerned, either option appears favorable for the Cowboys, which is why Jones may be backing off pushing for one player over the other (which is typically the head coach’s decision to make, but things operate a little differently in Dallas sometimes. Sorry, Jason Garrett).

“But we also feel equally good based upon the best thing you go in the past about Romo,” jones explained. “So we don’t have to be definitive in drawing bright lines right now.”

He’s right. There is no need to make any decision until we know for sure Romo is ready to play. Maybe by then Prescott has a bad game with multiple turnovers that cost the Cowboys a game. If so, the choice becomes a bit more clear in Romo’s favor. Whatever happens, it is going to be quite the show when it does come time to making a decision one way or the other. everything is bigger in Texas, especially the quarterback controversies.

Imagine that – the Cowboys’ confidence in Prescott two months ago was warranted.
