President Donald Trump (that’s still SO WEIRD to type) made some headlines in the sports/wrestling/sports entertainment/entertainment world when he named former WWE CEO Linda McMahon as head of the Small Business Administration.

Trump’s ties with the McMahon family go a long way back. WrestleMania IV and V were held at Trump Plaza in Atlantic City and of course we all know about the “Battle of the Billionaires” at WrestleMania 23 that featured both Trump and Vince McMahon receiving stunners from Stone Cold Steve Austin. Linda McMahon has been involved in politics for the last several years, losing two bids to win a Senate seat in Connecticut before becoming part of the Trump administration.

While McMahon hasn’t been involved in WWE for years, the appointment of a professional wrestling matriarch to a government post is naturally going to lead to cheesy jokes from congressmen during public hearings. Enter Iowa Republican Rod Blum, who asked McMahon a question about why John Cena took so long to propose to Nikki Bella before finally doing so at this year’s WrestleMania. He must be a huge Total Bellas fan.

Clever. Very clever. I think the most enjoyable part of the video is how proud Rep. Blum is at his WWE-inspired humor and how much he laughs at his own joke. Who does he think he is, Rick Harrison? Also, that exchange is probably going in some kind of official congressional transcript that will be a part of our country’s records for centuries to come.

If it was me in Rep. Blum’s shoes, I would have asked some more poignant questions with regards to the events that took place at WrestleMania…

  1. Is the Undertaker really retired for good?
  2. When is Roman Reigns finally turning heel?
  3. Are we getting “BROKEN” Matt Hardy in WWE?
  4. Who would win a match between Goldberg and Gronk?
  5. See #2.
