For the second straight week, the New York Giants looked absolutely terrible. The Detroit Lions went into MetLife Stadium and dominated the Giants 24-10 on Monday Night Football.
The Giants looked bad in all three phases of the game (they even allowed an 88-yard punt return touchdown), but it was the offense that was especially awful.
And after the game, Giants head coach Ben McAdoo was particularly critical of quarterback Eli Manning for a delay of game penalty on 4th-and-goal from the 2-yard line when trailing 17-7 in the third quarter.
First, here’s a look at the play:
And here are McAdoo’s comments after the game:
“Sloppy quarterback play. The quarterback and the center need to be on the same page there; we gotta get the ball snapped.
We have a veteran quarterback who’s played a lot of football. I expect to get the ball snapped.”
Those are pretty eye-opening comments from a head coach about a two-time Super Bowl winning quarterback. As ESPN’s Louis Riddick said about McAdoo’s comments, “Regardless of whether it’s fair or not, is that ever really a good look?”
What good can come from these comments? If McAdoo has a problem with Manning’s play, they can talk privately. Instead, he’s created a distraction (especially when it comes to the New York media), and that’s about the last thing this team needs right now.
