In one of the least surprising news stories of the day, LA Angels pitcher/outfielder Shohei Ohtani was named AL Most Valuable Player. Ohtani received all 30 votes by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America and not only became the 19th unanimous MVP in MLB history but also the first two-way player to win the award.
For a special player like Ohtani, you would think he would celebrate such a historic season by going out with friends or throwing a party at home. For Ohtani, he’s going to do something that a lot of us can relate to. He’s staying home alone.
Through his interpreter in Tokyo, Ohtani told the media, “I don’t have any special plans, actually. I’m probably gonna spend a lonely night by myself at home.” Ohtani added that he “plans to work out and see his mom and sister, who are in town.”
To have a year like he had, Ohtani probably didn’t have too many off days so it makes sense he’s staying down-to-earth and working out while others celebrate for him. The city of Tokyo will do just that by lighting up the Tokyo Tower in Angels’ colors.
Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Bryce Harper won NL MVP.
