12-year-old Easton Oliverson was preparing to play in the Little League World Series this week as a pitcher and outfielder for the Snow Canyon Little League team. But the Little Leaguer is now in a coma fighting for his life after a tragic accident in the team’s sleeping quarters.

According to TMZ Sports, Oliverson was sleeping on the top bunk in the team’s dormitory complex over the weekend, when he suddenly fell out of the bed and hit his head on the floor. Oliverson fractured his skull and was rushed to the hospital to undergo emergency surgery. He has since been in a medically-induced coma.

In a statement released on Tuesday morning, Oliverson’s family revealed that while the 12-year-old’s injuries were very life-threatening, he has seen “tremendous progress.”
