The San Francisco 49ers made headlines on Wednesday.

Following their Super Bowl LVIII loss, the 49ers dumped defensive coordinator Steve Wilks after just one season on the job. So, the team needs a new defensive coordinator. On Wednesday, the team followed through with an interview with a familiar face.

Safeties coach Daniel Bullocks, who’s been on the coaching staff since 2019, finished an interview with the team for the vacant defensive coordinator position.

ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported the news.

“49ers defensive backs coach Daniel Bullocks just completed his defensive coordinator interview with San Francisco,” Schefter said. Schefter reported the news on X, the website formerly known as Twitter.

Talent-wise, the 49ers have one of the best rosters in football. Fans were unhappy with the way the defense played down the stretch. They leaked against Green Bay and Detroit, letting their running backs run a bit wild and free.

Their performance in Super Bowl LVIII left much to be desired, even though Dre Greenlaw’s absence shouldn’t be understated.

Bullocks is a former NFL player who starred with the Detroit Lions from 2006 to 2009. He’s been coaching football since 2012, with four seasons in college and nine professionally. He’s coached with the 49ers since 2017, with his only other NFL stop being the Jacksonville Jaguars. He coached collegiately with Northern Iowa and Eastern Michigan.

The NFL world reacted to the news.
