Georgia tight end Brock Bowers injured his ankle in the Bulldogs’ win against the Vanderbilt Commodores. Bowers, a big-time NFL prospect, will now require surgery on his ankle, the program confirmed on Monday morning.

Georgia beat writer Seth Emerson broke the news on X, formerly known as Twitter. Emerson followed up on his own story, in which he reported that the team expects the All-SEC tight end to miss time. Emerson posted, “Update: Georgia confirms Brock Bowers will have surgery today ‘to stabilize the ankle, and a full recovery is anticipated.'”

Georgia’s announcement of surgery for Bowers will send waves throughout the SEC and the nation at large. Among the skill position players in the country, the only player who could probably challenge Bowers for the best is Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. Bowers is a game-breaking talent and a massive asset for Georgia. The Bulldogs will not nearly be the same player without him, so this is a tough pill for UGA to swallow.

The Bulldogs are hoping to complete a three-peat this season after winning the last two College Football Playoff Championship. That task has just gotten sizably more difficult if Bowers is out of the lineup. And to that end, for Bowers, a pro career awaits. After winning two national titles and SEC titles, you wonder if this is it for him.

Georgia will next play Florida in the matchup formerly known as The World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party in Jacksonville in less than two weeks.

The college football world had lots to say.
