The controversial ending to the Dallas Cowboys-Detroit Lions game had the world talking last Saturday. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was firmly not among the discontent population.

The Lions came just two points away from knocking the Cowboys off in a hotly contested game in Texas. But because of an illegal formation call, the Lions’ 2-point try was wiped off the board. They were unsuccessful in their other attempts to tie the game and then went on to lose. Naturally, the referee’s call sparked fury in Detroit. Head coach Dan Campbell and Lions fans were among those who voiced their displeasure.

But Jones was decidedly not frustrated. Obviously.

The Cowboys owner discussed the controversial play this week on Dallas’ 105.3 FM The Fan. Clarence E.Hall Jr. transcribed Jones as saying, “I can’t believe the convoluted way that we ended up winning that game. But let me put it like this: The defensive team is supposed to know who the eligible receivers are. Anything you do to fuzzy that up can get fuzzy for you.”

The Cowboys benefitted greatly from the victory as they are in prime position to win the NFC East. Detroit won the NFC North already but that loss greatly affected seeding. A head-to-head win over the Cowboys could have vaulted them up high. But they’ll have to settle for the 3 seed now after the way things went down.
