The NFL world is buzzing after news emerged on Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. On Thursday, the Raiders ruled Garoppolo out for the game after the free-agent acquisition suffered a back injury against his former New England Patriots last weekend.
“Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has been ruled out of Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears,” Las Vegas reporter Vincent Bonsignore of the Review-Journal posted on Thursday morning.

The Raiders will instead have Aidan O’Connell likely starting the game. The rookie quarterback is the third Raiders signal-caller to see the field this season. O’Connell, Garoppolo, and veteran Brian Hoyer have all led command for the silver and black. Hoyer earned a win over his former Patriots in relief of Jimmy G this past weekend. But instead of the veteran, head coach Josh McDaniels will likely give the 25-year-old O’Connell the nod.
The word on Garoppolo is that while he visited the hospital for further evaluation of his injury, it might not keep him away for long. He was expected to miss play this weekend, but his long-term status may not be in as much doubt as originally thought. For the Raiders’ sake, that’s the case, as they sunk a hefty investment in him.
Chicago will also be dealing with quarterback issues this weekend. Former Division II quarterback Tyson Bagent will step in for Justin Fields, who sustained a hand injury last weekend in a loss vs. Minnesota.
The NFL world reacted to the Jimmy Garoppolo announcement.
