The Las Vegas Raiders officially ruled out starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo for the team’s game this weekend. Las Vegas won’t have Garoppolo when they face the Chicago Bears, who similarly won’t have their starter Justin Fields in the game either.
“Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has been ruled out of Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears,” Las Vegas reporter Vincent Bonsignore of the Review-Journal posted on Thursday morning.

The Raiders take a hit hearing this news, as their quarterback play has been inconsistent this year. Three quarterbacks have already appeared for the team this season, as Garoppolo, Brian Hoyer, and rookie Aidan O’Connell have seen the field for the silver and black. O’Connell, a former Purdue Boilermakers star, is expected to start for the Raiders this weekend against the Bears.
Chicago won’t have Fields under center either. The former Ohio State star injured his throwing hand and will miss this Sunday’s game. Division II quarterback Tyson Bagent will get the nod instead.
Certainly, things have been better for the Raiders. The good news for O’Connell is he has Josh Jacobs behind him and Davante Adams to throw to. Whether he’s able to or not is the question, but the Bears’ defense has looked atrocious at times. So he won’t be facing a fearsome unit on Sunday if there’s any sort of consolation.
