The Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers will do battle on Christmas Day. A pair of 11-3 teams, the 49ers and Ravens stand as two of the best teams in the NFL this season. There’s a lot of hype about the game, and the MVP race may heat up due to the game, too.  There’s a lot to choose from between Christian McCaffrey, Brock Purdy, and Lamar Jackson.

Lamar’s critics have always been shouting at him and how he plays football. Don’t consider NFL legend Steve Young as one of Jackson’s critics, though.

Young appeared this week on Sarah Ellison’s ‘The Vault’ podcast on the Ravens. During the show, Young offered a passionate defense of Lamar Jackson and how he plays the game.

“Don’t tell me, ‘Well, that’s Lamar – he can’t do certain things.’ I pull my hair out,” Young said. “Because do not diminish the potential of what Lamar Jackson can be in the game today. The game *is* his game.”

Young continued his praise later on in the show. “I beg, I beg them to continue to take chances to let him develop because I still believe that, like Patrick Mahomes, Lamar could be the greatest player. You see Patrick headed that direction. And I think he and Lamar could go head-to-head for ten more years,” he said.

Jackson’s Ravens face Young’s old Niners on Christmas Day at 8 p.m. Eastern.
