Bob Huggins faces a DUI charge after police arrested him on Friday night.

The West Virginia men’s basketball coach was arrested in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Per MetroNews, “According to information from Pittsburgh police, Huggins was driving a black SUV at around 8:30 p.m. on Merchant Street off of Ridge Avenue when officers observed the vehicle in the middle of the road blocking traffic. Police said the driver’s side door was open, and the vehicle had a flat and shredded tire.”

But that was just the initial police report.

According to a criminal complaint that Matt Norlander of CBS Sports obtained, there are some concerning details surrounding the nature of Huggins’ arrest, including an alarming .210 breathalyzer reading “after multiple failed attempts.”

The 69-year-old Higgins had no idea where he was, stating that he thought he was in Columbus. Several hours earlier, he showed officers a Burger King receipt but could not explain how he got from the fast food restaurant to the north side of Pittsburgh. Nor could he explain what happened to his tire.

One of the responding officers asked Huggins approximately 1o times where he was, and he could not respond with the current city he was in.

Higgins failed multiple sobriety tests on the scene and was therefore placed under arrest without incident. That’s when officers discovered empty beer cans found in a white garbage bag on the passenger side and another white garbage bag of empty metal beer bottles in the trunk of his vehicle. A cooler was also located right behind the vehicle’s center console, but it, too, was open and wet.

We will continue to provide necessary updates on the matter when more details come to fruition. In the meantime, it’s hard to imagine how Higgins will come out of this unscathed, as he’s already in a lot of hot water with the university for using a homophobic slur during a radio interview last month.

Huggins is fortunate that no one lost their lives during this avoidable incident.
