When news broke that Texas Longhorns star quarterback Quinn Ewers had sustained a shoulder injury that will keep him out for at least this week’s game against the BYU Cougars, many people hoped that it could mean that five-star freshman quarterback Arch Manning would make his first start for the Longhorns. But it doesn’t look like that’s going to be the case.

Arch Manning received first-team reps at quarterback this week along with fellow quarterback Maalik Murphy as Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian tried to determine the team’s replacement for Quinn Ewers this week. But it looks like Manning was unable to earn the job as Sarkisian announced that Murphy will be the starter over Manning.

However, Sarkisian did announce that Manning could still play in the game.

“Maalik’s going to start the game and go play in this game,” Sarkisian said. “I haven’t made a decision if I want to get Arch in there just to get him in there or not, but we have discussed that some because I do think there’s some valuable experience for him in that. But, I have to make that’s in the best interest of the team.”

It’s a pretty significant announcement, and the CFB world had a lot to say about it on social media.

We’ll have to see if Manning sees any action on Saturday.
