The NC State Wolfpack rallied from 18 down to come back and beat Virginia Tech 22-21 on Thursday night at Carter-Finley Stadium. Not every NC State fan stuck around to watch it happen and head coach Dave Doeren would like them to know that they “suck.”

When Virginia Tech took a 21-3 lead with 4:02 left in the third quarter, the stands began to empty as Wolfpack fans assumed their team was going to give away a game they should have won. Instead, freshman quarterback M.J. Morris threw three touchdowns, including one with 7:38 left in the game to complete the comeback, pushing NC State’s record to 6-2 on the season.

After the game, head coach Dave Deoren shared his appreciation for fans who stuck around to see the comeback happen.

“To our fans that stayed for four quarters thank you for not giving up,” Doeren. “When a team gets down like this they need everyone they can get behind them.”

While that was Doeren’s diplomatic response to the situation, he may have tipped his hand regarding how he actually felt by retweeting the sentiment of an NC State fan unhappy with those who left the game early.

to all of the “fans” that left early: you suck,” wrote Twitter user kenzblackwelder. “if you left for the sole reason of the score, then please do not come to another game this season. this team is not like teams in the past. THIS @PACKFOOTBALL TEAM NEVER GIVES UP. they deserve fans that stay until 00:00. GO PACK!!”

Doeren retweeted that post on Friday.

We’ve seen situations like this before where the person admits they didn’t actually read the entire tweet and only reacted to one part of it. That might eventually be the case if Doeren is asked about it, but it’s hard to ignore the fact that RT remains up hours later and the head coach of the NC State Wolfpack just endorsed the sentiment that a section of his fans sucks, and shouldn’t attend any home games in the future.

There’s been a lot of speculation that Doeren might leave NC State after this season, for one reason or another, and sharing sentiments like this is certainly going to fuel that.
