Deion Sanders Colorado head coach Deion Sanders walks the field during warm ups as the Oregon Ducks host Colorado in the Pac-12 opener Saturday, Sept. 23, 2023, at Autzen Stadium in Eugene, Ore.

After the Colorado Buffaloes blew a 29-point lead Friday night to Stanford before finally losing in double overtime 46-43, one thing came to mind afterward: What do Colorado and Deion Sanders want to be?

They became America’s darlings the first few weeks of the college football season but then got a reality check when they faced the Oregon Ducks and while Sanders kept saying they coming, they didn’t Friday night.

In fact, they didn’t show up in the second half. Sanders seemed a little shocked that his team played so badly but he shouldn’t be.

Which brings up the question, do they want to win football games or be a brand? Sanders and his team seem to be more concerned about being a brand than winning football games.

In fact, quarterback Shedeur Sanders’s social media account tweeted out merchandise information during halftime of the game. Whether he did it himself or not is unknown but still, a weird flex to do that during a football game.

I get they are trying to bring excitement and attention to the program, however, you don’t see other players from DI schools doing this, especially during a game. You’d never see this at Alabama or Michigan because they are established brands and they care about winning.

The way you bring excitement and attention to your program is by winning, not by flexing. That’s how you establish yourself and your brand.

And Deion Sanders needs to decide what’s more important to him because if he wants Colorado to be the program that he says they are, it’s time to put the watches down and get back to work.
