Georgia Bulldogs star tight end Brock Bowers had a surprisingly quick return following ankle surgery, returning to the field just 26 days after undergoing tight rope surgery on his ankle. But it appears that he had a slight setback this week which sidelined him for Georgia’s rivalry showdown with Georgia Tech this weekend.

Brock Bowers did not play in Saturday’s 31-23 win over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. After the game, Kirby Smart revealed that his absence from the lineup was due to some soreness that the star tight end was feeling this week, which kept him sidelined during practice throughout the week.

“He was more sore this week than he’s been,” Smart said according to On3. “He was not able to do much during the week. He tried to go, he wanted to go, but it just, I mean, he’s sore. He’s got to be honest with us and tell us.”

The Bulldogs obviously didn’t need him to beat Georgia Tech on Saturday, but they will certainly want to make sure that they have him back this week when Georgia takes on the Alabama Crimson Tide in the SEC championship game. We’ll have to see if he is able to play.
