A year after being one of the prized recruits in USC’s Class of 2023, quarterback Malachi Nelson is headed to Boise State.

Nelson announced that he was entering the transfer portal shortly after USC’s regular season ended. On Thursday, it was reported that he had set up a visit with Boise State. Apparently, that visit went well.

On Saturday night, Nelson took to Twitter/X to announce that he had committed to the Broncos.

“Boise, this is it.. Committed #BleedBlue,” he posted.

The transfer news was met with a lot of excitement for both Nelson and Boise State.

Nelson played very little for the Trojans as a true freshman during the 2023 season. He got a garbage time appearance in the season opener against San Jose State, going 1-for-3 in the blowout win. When he announced his decision to transfer, it seemed as though the Trojans would land Kansas State’s Will Howard in the transfer portal. Howard, though, has since committed to Ohio State.

Boise State is coming off of an 8-6 season. Coach Spencer Danielson is entering his first season as the Broncos’ full-time coach, though he was the team’s interim coach for four games in 2023 after Andy Avalos was fired.

Nelson will be joining an offense that includes running back Ashton Jeanty. Jeanty ran for 1,347 yards with 14 touchdowns in 2023 and added 43 receptions for 569 yards with five touchdowns as a receiver.
