The Washington Huskies will be entering a new era with star quarterback Michael Penix Jr. declaring for the 2024 NFL Draft. However, they will seemingly be in good hands at the quarterback position after former Mississippi State quarterback Will Rogers surprised many by withdrawing from the transfer portal on Tuesday.
Rogers initially committed to Washington last month after entering the transfer portal, but decided to re-enter the portal after head coach Kalen DeBoer opted to leave for the vacant Alabama head coaching job.
However, Rogers has now decided that he will be playing for Washington after all. Matt Zenitz of 247 Sports broke the news that Rogers will ultimately be playing at Washington next year.

This is pretty significant news for a Washington team that has lost a ton of talent to the transfer portal after DeBoer’s departure.
In Rogers, Washington will be getting a proven commodity at arguably the highest level of the sport in the SEC, throwing for 12,315 career passing yards at Mississippi State throughout his career. That puts him in second place for the most career passing yards in the history of the SEC.
Only time will tell whether Huskies’ new head coach Jedd Fisch will be able to replicate the same success that DeBoer had before him at the program. However, retaining a commitment from a player like Will Rogers is certainly a good start in doing so.
