Western Kentucky will take the field this weekend with a brand-new look. The Hilltoppers will debut a new helmet in their Week 11 game against Rice. The helmet features Big Red, their iconic mascot, and puts him (it?) front and center.

Action Network reporter Brett McMurphy tweeted, “Western Kentucky will debut these sweet new helmets featuring mascot ‘Big Red’ Saturday vs. Rice.”

As far as designs go, this one is one of the best in recent memory. It’s a big week for new helmets, as the Carolina Panthers debut a new all-black one on Thursday Night Football this week against the Atlanta Falcons. This new Hilltoppers helmet though is very nice. The logo itself is outstanding. Big Red is one of the best mascots around, a statement that is proven time and time again. Getting him on the helmet? Having him throw a football? Job well done.

Any black and red color scheme will tend to look really nice too. So WKU made a wise decision to incorporate those colors together.

The college football world reacted to the new look for WKU this weekend. People far and wide praised the new design for all the right reasons. The people just love Big Red.
