Craig Buckner Oregon Bird

Florida Man, the world’s most interesting superhero, has a cousin in Oregon who has done something remarkable: taking a mugshot with his pet bird in it.

A little backstory first: Craig Buckner went to court in Washington County, Oregon this past Monday for violating a release order after he had failed to appear to answer to drug and theft charges. He believed the judge in the case would only hit him with a fine, so he left his well-trained macaw, “Bird,” outside on a tree branch to wait for him. But… he was taken into custody immediately.

According to KPTV in Portland, Bird was getting distressed outside the courthouse as she was surrounded by crows (how fitting). So a deputy made some arrangements for Buckner to re-unite with his pet and call a friend to pick her up. Not before she appeared in his mugshot, though:

“Mr. Buckner was already in a stressful position and did not need the additional stress and worry of his loved pet, Bird.” said Deputy Shoana McKelvey.

“Our sheriff’s office has very strong core values of doing the right thing. I also have very strong moral values of treating all people with compassion no matter what role I am taking,” she added.

So this amazing mugshot didn’t come out of anything wild or wacky; it came because a deputy decided to do the right thing for a man and his pet who were in a lot of stress.

Quite the plot twist, isn’t it?
