Augusta National during a practice round prior to the start of the 2016 Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club on April 4, 2016 in Augusta, Georgia.

Augusta National is the host of The Masters and is arguably the most powerful and well known golf club around the word. Only recently did the exclusive club begin allowing women to become members, but becoming a member if you’re a man or a woman these days is extremely difficult. In short, the club and course does what it wants – except for buying one small house.

Over the last 15 years, in an effort to expand its property, Augusta National has purchased the majority of a neighborhood around it to build a parking lot. However, there is one house in that community that still stands on 1112 Stanley Road.

There’s a three-bedroom house located on 1112 Stanley Road built by Herman and Elizabeth Thacker in 1959. The couple raised two children there who went on to expand the family, which now includes five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The Thacker family has grown to become pretty big and still celebrates holidays in the small house.

In short, they’re a small quaint family that could be referred to as David compared to Augusta National as Goliath, breathing down their necks.

Recently, when the club came over to ask about buying the property in order to expand the parking lot, the Thackers refused.

“We really don’t want to go,” Elizabeth Thacker said.

But this isn’t some small public golf course that is trying to buy the house for a couple pennies. This is Augusta National. The home of The Masters.

The payout for the house on 1112 Stanley Road couple potentially be in the seven-figure range, but as Herman Thacker points out, “money ain’t everything.”

During this week’s practice rounds, fans have been walking past their house constantly in order to get to the course and to go back to their cars. All this time, the happy couple, who celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary back in November, has been watching the spectators walk by their house while enjoying the nice weather.

Most people probably don’t think twice about who lives in the house or why it’s there, but that doesn’t matter to the Thackers, who are just happy to be there and don’t plan on selling any time soon.
