The PGA Tour took to Scottsdale, Arizona this weekend for the annual Waste Management Phoenix Open with an extremely star-studded group of players taking part in the event. One of those elite golfers competing this weekend is 2022 Masters winner Scottie Scheffler, who got a horrible break on what seemed like his best shot of the day on Friday.

The event takes place at TPC Scottsdale, which features a No. 16 hole, otherwise known as the “stadium hole” that is one of the most iconic holes in golf.

The hole is a Par 3 that is very much susceptible to incredible hole-in-ones. Golf superstar Tiger Woods perhaps has the most iconic moment of anyone at this hole, making an iconic ace back in 1997.

Scheffler nearly pulled off a similar feat at the 16th hole on Friday, with his golf ball rolling just feet away from the hole Unfortunately, the ball just kept on rolling due to some heavy winds early in Friday’s round. Fans’ cheers quickly turned into boos as the ball unbelievably rolled all the way off the green.

Scheffler would go on to miss his birdie putt and make an extremely disappointing par given the circumstances. The game of golf is certainly an incredibly cruel one, and many fans who took notice of this unbelievable shot feel for Scheffler.

Luckily for Scheffler, he responded in a huge way after this awful break, making four consecutive birdies after the 16th hole to take a share of the lead alongside Jon Rahm midway through his round.

Scottie Scheffler is the defending champion of the Waste Management Phoenix Open, and despite this awful break, it looks like he has a great chance to go back-to-back at the event.
