Alex Cora enters the final season of his contract, but it’s not the main thing on his mind.

“I think the future is the Red Sox and getting these guys better, Cora told Mass Live’s Chris Cotillo. “I think I’d be very selfish if I started talking about Alex Cora and what the future holds. I think the best way to do it is to be a good teammate like I’ve always been and take care of ’24.”

After Chaim Bloom was fired as the chief baseball officer, Cora now is under Craig Breslow. The two have a history together as former teammates.

Boston’s CEO Sam Kennedy complimented Cora on WEEI during Red Sox Winter Weekend on Saturday.

“Alex Cora is a fan favorite. He’s also an internal favorite of our ownership. He’s a World Series champion,” Kennedy said. “However, the most important thing in leadership and in management is to have a proper chain of command, roles, and responsibilities.

“So, I’m very optimistic that the relationship will continue to grow and lead to a place where Alex is around for a long time, assuming he wants to be and assuming that’s what Craig wants. That’s Craig Breslow’s decision. That’s part of our job as ownership and management, is to make sure we have a proper line of authority and chain of command.”

Breslow also complimented Cora saying he embodies what it takes to be a modern manager and the two will have the conversations about his future at the right time.

Cora began his managerial career with the Boston Red Sox in 2018 where the team finished with a 108-54 record and would ultimately go on to win the World Series.
