Major League Baseball disciplined Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon on Monday after his involvement in a recent altercation with a fan on Opening Day.
MLB suspended Rendon for five games according to a release.
Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register tweeted, “MLB just announced a 5-game suspension for Anthony Rendon from his altercation with a fan in Oakland on Opening Day.”

During the Angels-Athletics game, Rendon was involved in an altercation with a fan. In a video that went viral on Thursday night, Rendon could be seen grabbing on a fan’s shirt. He cursed at him and swiped at him as well. The fan could also be heard in the video as well talking back to Rendon.

Rendon recently stressed he could not comment on the situation after he spoke to the media on Saturday during batting practice.
The five-game suspension levied against Rendon stymies the 2-time Silver Slugger Award winner’s start to the season. He had gone 0-for thus far with one RBI and an on-base percentage of .125.
Rendon won the 2019 World Series with the Washington Nationals before he signed a long-term contract with the Angels club. But since then, Rendon has struggled with health and performance issues.
