New York Mets general manager Billy Eppler announced his resignation on Thursday. The shocking announcement stunned the MLB world afterward.
Mike Mayer was among the first to report the news.
“Billy Eppler resigning as Mets GM,” Mayer posted. Mayer also included a quote from Eppler, which read, “I wanted David to have a clean slate and that meant me stepping down.”

Eppler recently emerged in the news cycle but not for positive news. A report from the New York Post indicated that Eppler and former manager Buck Showalter quarreled over the use of 2022 acquisition and infielder/designated hitter Daniel Vogelbach. Eppler and the moves the Mets made appeared to make them look like a juggernaut going into the season after they won over 100 games this year. But the Mets fell flat on their face and finished a disappointing 75-87 and in fourth place in the National League East Division.
But now that relationship is over. David Stearns recently joined the organization, and obviously, Eppler wound up being the odd man out. The move was made on a day with no baseball going on. The MLB Postseason is in full swing but all four Wild Card series ended in two-game sweeps. The Philadelphia Phillies, Arizona Diamondbacks, Minnesota Twins, and Texas Rangers all advanced.

How is this shocking if they fired the manager because the new President gets to pick all the baseball people?
