Boston Celtics

The Boston Celtics have a long and storied history with more NBA Championships than any other program and a whole collection of legendary players. This season, the franchise will be paying homage to that history by honoring one of their most legendary players with their new alternate jersey.

On Monday, the Celtics unveiled their 2022-23 City Edition uniforms which pay homage to the late Bill Russell, a Boston Celtics legend who passed away earlier this year. Before he passed, Russell collaborated with the team to create the new uniforms, offering his input. Now, they’re honoring his legacy.

To honor Russell, the uniforms feature 11 gold diamonds representing Russell’s 11 championships. The shorts also feature Russell’s retired No. 6 right on the waistband surrounded by 11 diamonds.

The team announced that it will wear the brand-new uniforms on opening night when the team tips off the 2022-23 season at home against the Philadelphia 76ers.

The new uniforms certainly caught the attention of the NBA world just before the start of the season as many took to Twitter to offer their praise for the special threads.

In another apparent homage to Russell, the team will wear the special uniforms 11 times this season, with the first coming on opening night.
