LeBron James, the star forward of the Los Angeles Lakers, was one of my celebrities to pay tribute to slain rapper Takeoff, a member of Atlanta-based rap group Migos.

James again spoke on Takeoff’s murder Sunday following the Lakers’ loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers. James donned a suit for the postgame performance in Takeoff’s honor.

“I was listening to those guys my first year with the Heat in 2010,” James said. “You can ask any one of my teammates back then, they had no idea who the Migos was… I was like ‘I’m telling you these guys are next.'”

The Migos formed as a group in 2008. It’s certainly possible that James was the first member of those championship Miami Heat teams to become familiar with the group. However, due to his knack for telling tall tales in the past, most NBA fans didn’t believe him:

“LeBron lying is so funny because everyone knows when he’s lying yet he always thinks he’s getting away with it,” Colton Pouncy said.

“One day I hope to harness the power of effortless lying that LeBron has. Inspirational levels of deceit,” said Dennis Chambers.

LeBron’s lying is one of his most relatable attributes. It’s nothing grandiose it’s all just like ‘Oh yeah I’ve seen that movie I love that movie what a good movie’ which is also one of my favorite lies,” Tyler Lauletta said.

“Lebron is a great basketball player. Arguably the greatest of all time. But there is one thing that isn’t arguable and that is he is the greatest liar of all time,” one fan said.

“LeBron James lying about innocuous stuff is the funniest thing to me because there’s absolutely no reason for it. He doesn’t need to curry favor with people anymore, he doesn’t need to boost his profile. This man tells tall tales for the love of the game, he’s like Hulk Hogan,” said another user.

James and the Lakers are next in action Monday night on the road against the Utah Jazz.
