As the Minnesota Timberwolves prepare for what could be a special postseason run, the team will be reportedly getting a big player back from injury soon.

Minnesota, currently sitting at 54-24 and tied with the Denver Nuggets for the Western Conference’s top seed, expects four-time All-Star forward Karl-Anthony Towns to return to action before the postseason.

FanDuel’s Shams Charania shared the news Monday morning.

“Great news for Karl-Anthony Towns,” Charania said on FanDuel’s Run It Back. “He participated in his first team scrimmage on Sunday. There is optimism that Karl-Anthony Towns will play before the playoffs start.”

Towns was diagnosed with a torn left meniscus on March 7 and underwent surgery shortly afterward to repair the injury. Minnesota has held their own in the month since Towns’ injury, going 10-5 in their first 15 games without the big man.

Towns was in the midst of another strong season before the injury, averaging 22.1 points and 8.4 rebounds per game in 60 games played. His defensive pairing with center Rudy Gobert has also been a big part of Minnesota’s success this season, as the two behemoths make it exceptionally difficult for opponents to get quality shots.

The Timberwolves are already guaranteed to have no worse than their second-best regular season of all time. This is just the fifth 50+ win season in franchise history, and 54 wins is second-most behind 2003-04’s 58-win season.
