Texas A&M receiver Demond Demas has a lot bigger things to worry about than college football at the moment but the former ESPN 300 recruit has announced his intention to enter the transfer portal and play elsewhere next season.

Despite being a highly touted recruit, Demas had a lot of drama surrounding the end of his high school career and only played in four games in 2020. In his second season, he caught 15 balls for 235 yards and a touchdown but missed the last two games of the Aggies’ season due to a leg injury.

However, the off-field issues for Demas have piled up to the point where they overshadow anything he’s accomplished on the field. Last year he was accused of hitting a girlfriend, but prosecutors declined to press charges, per the Houston Chronicle. He was arrested for marijuana possession in March 2021 as well.

The 21-year-old was charged earlier this month with assault causing bodily injury/family violence for allegedly pushing his girlfriend’s head into a wall, per WTAW-AM.

Texas A&M suspended Demas on the same day that he was released from custody and he was removed from the football team. However, a university source told the Houston Chronicle that he was suspended due to not attending class and it was unrelated to the assault allegations.

Demas has three years of eligibility remaining, though it remains to be seen how his off-field issues will impact his ability to find a new place to play football. Pete Thamel noted that Demas as “NIL agents,” so that’s likely part of his reasoning for transferring, though it’s unclear what kind of brands will want to associate themselves with him at the moment.
