It’s been a rough start to the season in both NCAA men’s and women’s basketball thanks to COVID-19 postponements and cancellations. On the women’s basketball side, the Louisville Cardinals have been particularly hard-hit, with four of their five originally planned non-conference games affected (the latest being their planned game against the Cincinnati Bearcats Saturday, which went down Thursday). And that led to an unusual response from head coach Jeff Walz (seen above during a March 7 game against the Florida State Seminoles), who took to Twitter to try and line up a replacement opponent:
5 non conference games scheduled and we just had to cancel our 4th one. It is going to be one crazy season. Dealing with the rollercoaster 🎢 of emotions has been difficult for our team. 🙏🏼for the health and safety for all… and a special 🙏🏼 for those of us trying to schedule!

Louisville looking for Div. 1 opponent for Saturday, Nov. 28. Will travel but needs to be within 5-6hr bus ride. We will all be trying to get the minimum 13 games scheduled to meet requirement for NCAA Tournament. Not a time to be picky who you play. Just sayin! DM or call.

We’ll see if that tweet bears fruit for Walz and the Cardinals. But it’s certainly interesting to see a Division I head coach taking to Twitter to try and line up an opponent, and it’s certainly a sign of the times.
