The Washington Huskies softball team advanced to the Women’s College World Series on Saturday, and the Huskies’ emotional celebration went viral.

The Huskies made quick work and won the Best of 3 series with a 2-0 sweep. Right after the final out was made, UW was in full celebration mode! Washington defeated Louisiana in a Super Regionals sweep in Seattle.

The celebration became emotional immediately. Freshman pitcher Ruby Meylan burst into tears when she struck the final Louisiana batter out. The team assembled around her in the circle and embraced as they celebrated the huge victory.

The final punchout by Meylan meant that Washington Softball remains one of the top programs in the country. Now the Huskies hope to party like it’s 2009 — the last time that UW won the NCAA Softball Championship. This will be their 15th trip to the Women’s College World Series and the first that the team will make to OKC since 2019. The win was also sweet for Washington fans because rival Oregon went down in the Supers to the Oklahoma State Cowgirls after the Ducks’ shocking upset of 11th-seeded Arkansas in the Regionals.

With the weekend almost over, the Women’s College World Series field is nearly complete. The big event begins on June 1 in Oklahoma City.

After the emotional celebration, Washington Softball went viral. Many commented on the awesome moment.
