The San Francisco 49ers lost their second Super Bowl in the last five years against the Kansas City Chiefs, which has seemingly given off the perception to some critics that the team cannot win the big one. But according to 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan, this couldn’t be further from the truth.

Plenty of great teams over the years have never been able to get over the hump and win a Super Bowl. And fair or not, this 49ers team under Shanahan is now being bunched into that category after yet again falling short against the Chiefs.

Shanahan was asked by reporters whether he was bothered by this perception from some, detailing that in his mind his team has won plenty of big games, just a Super Bowl quite yet.

“I mean, you would love to fix perception because I would love to win one for what I know about football,” said Shanahan. “I know that if I fix the perception, that means that I did everything I wanted to do. The only way to fix the perception is to win a d*** Super Bowl. But I also know that we had to win a bunch of big games to get to two Super Bowls. We’ve won a lot of big games here. The fact that we keep getting there shows how you guys how much we can win big games. These two Super Bowls have been tough against Kansas City. But to say the Niners can’t win a big game would be an extremely inaccurate statement.”

The unfortunate truth here is that Shanahan and this 49ers team will always have critics that say that they cannot win a Super Bowl because they failed on their two attempts thus far.

But as Shanahan said, they have won plenty of big games to get to this point. And there is no reason that the team shouldn’t be amongst the top contenders in all of football again next year.
