The Chicago Bears have a big decision on their hands in the next coming months when it comes to their quarterback situation for the future. And legendary linebacker Brian Urlacher offered his opinion on what the team should do on Thursday.

The decision on their hands is a rather simple one. Does the Chicago Bears want to move forward with third-year quarterback Justin Fields? Or do they want to go a different direction and select their quarterback of the future in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft?

There are some positives and negatives to both possibilities in terms of how this decision affects the rest of the team. But according to Urlacher, the team should move on from Fields and select a quarterback with their top pick in April.

“Any time the local radio stations want to talk to me it’s about that,” Urlacher told Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team. “I don’t envy their position, they have to make a tough decision with Justi (Fields) who could be the guy. Last year they had the No. 1 pick and passed up on C.J. Stroud. Could have had him last year. It’s tough to be in that position I guess. But I think at this point if people are still asking if Justin is the guy, then he is probably not the guy. We’re three years in at this point. There are some pretty good guys sitting there as well in college in Caleb Williams. In my opinion, they probably have to draft the kid.”

Urlacher is as beloved as any Bears player in recent memory, playing all 12 of his seasons in the NFL with the organization, earning eight Pro Bowl appearances over the course of his career and ultimately a seat in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

His opinion should certainly be valued on this topic. As of right now, it seems like the consensus from most Bears fans is that they agree with Urlacher on the team selecting Caleb Williams at No. 1 in the upcoming draft.

One positive in keeping Fields instead is that the team could set themselves up for the future by trading back in the draft and getting a big haul in return.

That being said, when you have a chance to get a quarterback you believe in for the future, you do it. And the Bears could very well do that with Caleb Williams if they indeed believe he is a special talent.
