It’s no secret that New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick is not always the most friendly with reporters, and it looks like the six-time Super Bowl champion head coach is already in midseason form on that front.
During a press conference following the team’s 23-21 preseason loss to the New York Giants, a reporter asked Belichick about the team’s offensive struggles following reports that the team’s first-team offense “looks broken” or looks “distressingly bad.” The Patriots’ head coach did not have a lot of answers for the reporter.

“You mentioned earlier, with the offensive play-caller, you’re going through a process,” the reporter began. “What do you need to see to make a final decision?”
“I don’t need to see anything,” Belichick said. “We’re going through a process. It’s as simple as that.”
“Okay, it’s just a little bit of an unusual situation for those of us who have watched you before,” the reporter responded.
“I mean, what d0 you want me to do?” Belichick asked.
“I guess we’re just looking for a little clarity as to why we’re seeing what we’re seeing,” the reporter said.
“Great,” Belichick said. “We’re going through a process.”
That exchange concluded Belichick’s press conference for the day.
New England’s offense is going through a transition this preseason after former offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels left the team following the 2021-22 season to become the head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders.
The Patriots did not explicitly hire a new offensive coordinator, instead electing to bring in former NFL head coaches Matt Patricia of the Detroit Lions and Joe Judge of the New York Giants. However, neither of the former head coaches has ever coordinated an NFL offense before.
As a result, New England’s offense seems a little disjointed this preseason, with quarterback Mac Jones even admitting the problems.
